City of Joondalup to investigate bespoke dog walk event

Tyler BrownWanneroo Times

A DOG walk event similar to the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk will be investigated for the City of Joondalup.

At last month’s council meeting, Councillor Nige Jones moved a notice of motion to request a report on establishing a Joondalup Community Dog Walk Day to be held in conjunction with the City’s Dogs Day Out, held annually in Ocean Reef.

Cr Jones said the Dogs Day Out allowed the City to engage with dog owners and educate them about responsible ownership, registration and microchipping as well as facilitating access to various suppliers of goods and services.

He said the City could leverage the success of this event to hold a dog walk.

“These events have received overwhelming support from dog lovers and continue to grow in size and popularity,” he stated in his motion.

He proposed this could be held along the coast, which he said would involve minimal infrastructure and traffic management requirements, therefore minimising the cost.

City officers will prepare a report on the proposal.
