A 24-HOUR fast food outlet is proposed for Wangara.

Several Wanneroo councillors raised concerns about the proposal at the October 3 briefing session, which would amend the district planning scheme to allow for a drive-through food outlet at the corner of Niche Parade and Ocean Reef Road.

Landowner Samsara Developments was given approval for a service station, convenience store, lunch bar and motor vehicle repairs at the site in 2015 and under the general industrial zoning the outlet is a not permitted use.

It is classed as a complex amendment as there is no local planning strategy endorsed by the WA Planning Commission (WAPC) to support the change.

Cr Dianne Guise said she was worried about setting a precedent by supporting the application but planning implementation manager Pas Bracone said they carefully considered the proposal, which was not uncommon and believed it would not “significantly diminish” the amount of industrial land.

“We have done it on a number of occasions before,” he said.

“This particular site we thought was appropriate.”

The recommendation was unanimously supported at the following week’s meeting so was forwarded to the WA Planning Commission and Environmental Protection Authority and if approved will be advertised for public comment for 60 days.
