City of Wanneroo events for National Trust Heritage Festival

Laura PondWanneroo Times

CITY of Wanneroo is offering events for young and old as part of the National Trust Heritage Festival.

Children can get hands-on museum experience as part of the Young Curator Workshop on May 7 and 14, where they can learn about museums and prepare objects for display.

For schools, the Museum in a Box program offers four boxes containing artefacts, images, DVDs and books.

Available until July 1, each box is related to a different person or subject connected to World War I and the Wanneroo area.

Also part of the festival is the Mother’s Day picnic on May 8 at Cockman House.

Travel back in time during the family event, with old-fashioned games such as skittles and noughts and crosses and tours of the heritage-listed house.

Children can design and print their own book, copies of which will be displayed at Wanneroo Library the following week.

During the picnic, winners of the Great Wanneroo Bake Off will be announced to discover some of the area’s best bakers.
