City of Wanneroo population passes 195,000

CITY of Wanneroo’s population passed 195,000 today.

From a population of about 100 at the time of settlement in 1902, Wanneroo grew to 1100 in 1950, 8000 in 1970 and 80,000 in 2001.

In the past 14 years the population has more than doubled.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City was the largest growing local government in WA.

“The story of our growth is truly remarkable and we are proud of our City and its heritage and grateful to the pioneers whose hard work has laid the foundations for what is a truly vibrant and beautiful place to live,” she said.

“Local employment opportunities, as well as road and rail infrastructure need to be accelerated and we will continue to work on your behalf to get projects like rail to Yanchep and the Mitchell Freeway extension to Romeo Road delivered as soon as possible.”

The population level is estimated to reach 200,000 people early next year, and 550,000 by 2070.
