City of Wanneroo rolls out light upgrades to save energy, costs at parks

Staff WriterWanneroo Times

LIGHT upgrades at City of Wanneroo parks are expected to reduce energy use and costs.

The City has installed LED floodlights at Wanneroo Skate Park, extending opportunities for people to use the facility after dark and improving security.

Similar upgrades have already occurred at netball courts at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex in Madeley and the City plans to continue rolling-out installation at parks through the rest of this financial year.

That will include upgrades at Edgar Griffiths Park in Wanneroo, Abbeville Park in Mindarie, John Moloney Park in Marangaroo, Marangaroo Skate Park at Paloma Park, Heath Park in Eglinton and Addison Park in Merriwa.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the floodlights meant better efficiency and less maintenance, leading to lower operating costs.

“When compared to traditional metal halide lights, the benefits of the new LED floodlights include a reduction in energy demand and a projected 50 per cent reduction in maintenance and running costs,” she said.

“They also have eight times the running time, resulting in a reduction in replacement costs.

“It will allow our residents to use these wonderful community facilities for longer, and feel safe while doing so.”
