City of Wanneroo tags its role in graffiti removal

THE City of Wanneroo has delegated its powers under the recently enacted Graffiti Vandalism Act 2016.

The State act came into effect on October 7 and provides powers for graffiti removal that were previously legislated under the Local Government Act 1995.

A report by the City said it was required to adopt mechanisms to support better local graffiti control, including standard forms to provide for an objection to a notice to remove graffiti and for issuing a warrant to enter property, as well as the delegation of authority.

Councillors at the October 11 meeting endorsed the City’s recommendation to delegate the exercise of all its powers and duties under the act to the chief executive.

The report noted it would only replicate, not transfer, power to the delegate, with council retaining the ability to make decisions.
