CITY of Wanneroo is spending $100,000 on security cameras in Madeley after Federal funding fell short.

Last September it received a $207,700 grant to install a CCTV system at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex through the Federal Government’s Safer Streets program.

At the October meeting, councillors voted to transfer $100,000 from its CCTV expansion program to be used at Kingsway, after tenders failed to meet the grant budget.

According to the City’s report, it engaged an independent CCTV consultant to review the prices quoted and found it was feasible.

The transfer leaves $100,000 in the expansion program budget but the report noted $150,000 will be listed in the 2018-19 capital works program and it will be a priority project to start in 2018.

Councillor Lara Simpkins said she was supportive of the funding as the issue had been raised previously within the South ward while Cr Domenic Zappa said it would make people feel safer at the facility.
