City of Wanneroo tweaks granny flat policy

Lucy JarvisWanneroo Times

THE City of Wanneroo is planning changes to its policy covering granny flats and cottages.

The City has advertised amendments to the ancillary accommodation planning policy, first adopted in 2017, for public comment until April 9.

The changes seek to explain the difference between self-contained ancillary accommodation and detached extensions such as sleep-outs, pool rooms and sewing rooms.

The policy said self-contained dwellings should have a bathroom, toilet and kitchen so they could be occupied independently of the main house.

Proposed changes outlined in a February council report also aimed to refine policy objectives regarding visual amenity and built form, requiring the extra dwelling to match the built form of the main house.

They clarified the minimum lot sizes – 450sq m – and requirements for parking and plot ratios.
