It won for its three-year-old Healthy Communities program in the category of councils with populations more than 15,000.
‘I am thrilled that this wonderful program has received such high praise, and in particular was recognised for its contribution to tackling heart disease,’ Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said.
Healthy Communities started in Girrawheen before expanding to nine locations across the City.
It offers free physical activity and nutrition workshops for people at high risk of developing chronic health diseases.
Heart Foundation WA cardiovascular health director Trevor Shilton presented Mrs Roberts with the award at the Hainsworth Centre in Girrawheen ahead of a fitness class.
