CITY of Joondalup residents will experience an average 3.9 per cent rate increase after councillors approved the City’s 2015-16 budget at Tuesday’s meeting.
It means that minimum fees for improved residential lots will increase from $797 to $828, with a minimum of $845 for vacant residential lots, and all commercial and industrial lots.
Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said that the higher differential rating for vacant residential lots was to “disincentivise the holding of land” and to encourage development.
There will be no increase in refuse charges.
During advertising of the proposed rates and minimum payments, no submissions were received.
Mr Pickard said he felt the “minimal overall rate increase strongly reflects the aspirations of the local community”.
This is the second year in a row the City has increased rates by 3.9 per cent.
