Wanneroo City supports church carols for uniting community

CITY of Wanneroo councillors voted unanimously at last Tuesday’s council meeting to provide a donation to a Landsdale church for a Christmas carols event.

Landsdale Community Wesleyan Methodist Church applied for a donation of $1624 to help it run the Landsdale Community Carols in the Park last week.

A council report recommended the 100 per cent waiver of the church’s bond, facility hire and bin hire fees and a donation of $117 be refused, but an amendment proposed by Cr Domenic Zappa at the meeting was overwhelmingly supported.

Cr Brett Treby said despite the amendment not specifically meeting council criteria for approval, it ought to be approved because of the importance of the event, which he said brought the community together after the death of Landsdale toddler Sam Trott in December last year.

“It was a bonding event for people in the local community of Landsdale,” he said.

“After, people from Landsdale and across the metropolitan area, from outside the community, said they would come back again this year and pay their respects.

“I believe this will grow year after year.”
