Backyard Ashes premiered in Wagga Wagga last month and will now play in other regional towns and cities around Australia.
The movie stars Gold Logie winner John Wood (Blue Heelers), Andrew S Gilbert, Felix Williamson (The Great Gatsby) and comedian Damian Callinan (Spicks and Specks).
‘Backyard Ashes is connecting with audiences in ways the team could hardly have imagined,’ director Mark Grentell said.
‘Those who have seen the film are saying it is the ‘funniest Australian film since The Castle‘.’
The action centres on main character Dougie Waters and his new English neighbour Edward Lords.
In a turn of events that has Edward’s prize cat incinerated on the barbecue, Dougie and Edward enter into the biggest backyard cricket test match of the century, the Backyard Ashes.
‘Australians want to see their own stories and experiences on screen and they don’t get any more Australian than backyard cricket and a battle with the Poms,’ Grentell said.
