Coffee Crew set for another big challenge

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

Hillarys’ Dawn Metcalf put together the ‘Coffee Crew’ riding team for the 2012 Ride to Conquer Cancer and has watched the group grow to include her two daughters and more than 20 members.

The mother-of-two started fundraising three years ago after watching three of her grandparents, brother-in-law and several close friends live with and pass away from various cancers over the years.

She raised funds at local shopping centres and put together a team of six cancer patients and survivors ” none of whom owned a bike at the time. ‘The stories people have shared, both positive and sadly at times negative, have had a profound impact on my passion for fundraising for the Harry Perkins Institute,’ she said.

‘I can clearly see that the way forward is in research benefiting my children’s generation and beyond. The ‘Coffee Crew’ has grown and changed over the period; however, there has been one constant ” each member has been an enthusiastic participant.’

Dawn and her team will cycle 200km over two days in the Ride to Conquer Cancer in October raising money for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
