Police said the 36-year-old victim was driving along Scarborough Beach Road when he stopped to assist a dog at the side of the road, leaving the keys in the ignition of his car.

When the victim returned to his vehicle, the man was standing near it with a block of wood in his hand.

It will be alleged the man got into the victim’s vehicle and attempted to start the already running engine.

Police said the victim was able to reach into the vehicle and pulled out the keys.
