Connect Wanneroo clarification: campaign attracted 10,000 emails, not 10,000 people

Last month the Times incorrectly stated that 10,000 people had already joined the campaign.

The City of Wanneroo update said the pre-State Election campaign had generated more than 10,000 emails and 700 postcards to politicians and candidates.

Late last month Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles said he had received about 250 emails, with a fraction of those from people living in his electorate.

At last count his office had received 319 emails, mainly from north coast residents.

Mr Miles said other politicians and candidates had received the same emails.

The Times understands the City uses a multiplier effect, sending an email from each person who supported the campaign to almost 30 politicians and candidates and tallying the total number of emails sent.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said Connect Wanneroo was a community-driven campaign based on the recent national campaign Fund our Future.

Mrs Roberts said the latter identified strong community support for rail to Yanchep and immediately extending the Mitchell Freeway to Romeo Road in Alkimos, together with other key infrastructure throughout the City.

“Investment in this infrastructure will make it easier for residents in all parts of our City to get around and access services and places of employment,” she said.

She said it would also act as a catalyst for investment, which would create more local jobs.

“I urge residents to get on board with Connect Wanneroo,” she said.
