Councillor allowances increased

It comes after the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal’s recent decision to increase the maximum payments allowed for local government elected members. Both councils voted to increase allowances for councillors, mayors and deputy mayors by the maximum amount.

This will bring the total allowances paid to mayors to $130,000 a year, deputy mayors to $51,250 and $30,000 for councillors.

Joondalup councillor John Chester said council oversee large budgets and elected members should be paid accordingly.
