REGULAR Kingsway City shopper Lara Mittic wants to see a parking bay reserved for a Federal politician changed to a disabled or seniors’ bay.

Recently elected Cowan MHR Anne Aly wrote to the centre management last month requesting that the bay reserved for her outside her Madeley office be redesignated as a disabled parking space, which Ms Mittic said she supported.

The Marangaroo resident said she would like it to be marked as either a disabled or seniors’ parking space.

“It’s very nice for the bay to go to people who can use it,” she said.

“It’s my shopping centre; it’s my concern too. It’s a good thing for the centre and for people in wheelchairs and with Zimmer frames.”

Dr Aly said residents had raised the issue with her during the election campaign.

“The feeling that I got was that they were, to be honest, not happy with it and rightly so; I don’t see any need for a bay for somebody like me who is able bodied – those places should be kept for people who need them,” she said.

“Nobody else at that centre has a reserved parking bay.”

She said the parking bay was recently painted over, making it available for anyone, and was satisfied with that.

The centre declined to comment.
