Tia Chitty and Casey Schaub delivered Mullaloo primary’s best showing in school history at this month’s All Schools State Cross Country Championships.

Tia took out the Year 6 girls 2000m race, while Casey came 17th in the Year 5 boys 1500m.

Tia, a member of Hamersley Little Athletics Centre, defeated 235 rivals to be crowned girls’ champion at the UWA-hosted event on Tuesday, August 13.

It was the first time she had won an All Schools event, with her next goal being a spot in the WA team for next year’s national championships in Perth.

Casey will also have the opportunity to try out for WA, having placed in the top 20.

Coach Nicola Dark was proud of her junior athletes’ achievements.

‘Both Casey and Tia have been a joy to teach, showing great determination and a willingness to learn and they both always gave 100 per cent effort, which has helped them achieve fantastic results,’ she said.
