His wife, Susan Makur, who had travelled from Kenya, and his father Peter Maker, from South Sudan, joined family and friends in Perth to lay the 29-year-old man to rest on April 29.
Following a service that included singing, mourners travelled to Midland Cemetery for the burial.
Mr Maker died in hospital on April 13 after an alleged hit-and-run in Merriwa, and is also survived by his mother, two sisters, brother and step-brother who have been in Perth for almost 10 years.
He met his wife in South Sudan after returning there in 2010, and they married last year. He came back to Perth in January and planned to arrange a visa for her to join him.
Instead of a happy occasion to meet his relatives, Ms Makur’s first trip to Australia has been to bury her husband.
