Dad gives son gift money can’t buy

Damien set sail on the WA ship’s 10-day maiden voyage from Fremantle to Esperance in 1987.

The Alexander Heights resident reminisced about his experiences as he watched his son Clay embark on his seven-day sailing trip this month.

The trip, a 21st birthday gift, is Clay’s first sailing experience.

‘I appreciate the value of the Leeuwin program as opposed to other programs because when you are at sea, you have to find a resolution to problems rather than just walking away,’ Damien said.

‘This experience really makes you realise you are the captain of your own ship, and I wanted Clay to have this experience.’
