Official counting took place in August last year and Mr Patel had been anxiously waiting to find out whether he was successful.

“I was very happy and relieved as I have been waiting for nearly a year,” he said.

“All my friends and family members were involved in the assessment process of the world record attempt and therefore they were eagerly waiting for the result too.

“My four world record attempt assessors were very happy when I informed them.”

Mr Patel does not plan to increase his current collection though will continue to gather different world coins and did not rule out further record attempts.

“The positive outcome of the world record attempt has boosted my motivation, so in future I might try a world record in other areas of collection,” he said.

Collecting coins has been his hobby for the past six years and he said part of its appeal was that anyone could do it and start at any time.

“Coin collecting gave me the opportunity to visit different places, meet different people and gain knowledge from fellow coin collectors,” he said.

“It becomes more interesting as your collection grows and it gets older.”
