DARCH resident Luke Wardle braved the cold on Tuesday to take this photo at Perry’s Cottage in Yellagonga Regional Park, Woodvale.

“I have used this location a few times but always wanted to come back in the dark of night to get a different angle,” he said.

“While it was challenging to capture the stars but still have the house lit I am happy with the results.

“To get the photo was a tricky one; I had to do a long exposure to capture the light from the stars.

“To get the house in the foreground I used a trick called light painting; during the long exposure I used a torch to illuminate parts of the front of the house almost using the torch light like a brush.

“Then I walked around into the house and put allot of light in the house itself.

“I wanted to get the effect of some one being home or the house still being alive.

“This is also what the streak of light inside is – me walking through with the torch; you just can’t see me because I walked through too fast for the camera to see me.”

The photographer said he worked on the picture using computer programs afterwards as well.
