Debut writer finds romance

This is just a glimpse into Pauline Bennion’s debut romance novel, The House on Burra Burra Lane, recently short-listed for the prestigious Joan Hessayon Award for new writers.

Born in the UK, the Wanneroo author who writes under the name Jennie Jones attended drama school in London and performed in British theatres for several years.

She wrote her first romance novel when she was 25, which was turned down, but when Mrs Bennion moved to Perth nine years later she returned to her passion for writing.

‘Thanks to the Romantic Novelists Association’s New Writers’ Scheme and the concise report I received on my manuscript, I was able to move forward,’ Mrs Bennion said.

‘The result is that my book found a home with Harlequin Australia and I couldn’t be happier.’

Mrs Bennion is one of 17 novelists up for the award, which will be presented at the RNA summer party in London on May 22.
