Landowner Ray Jackson said the City of Wanneroo approved the development application for the building after council voted last week to permit the medical centre and pharmacy as discretionary uses.
The WA Planning Commission needs to approve the building before the applicant can apply to the City for permission to use it as a medical centre and pharmacy.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, Cr Bob Smithson moved an amendment to have the medical centre and pharmacy approved as permitted uses rather than discretionary uses to eliminate the need for the applicant to come back to council for a second approval.
Mayor Tracey Roberts asked acting planning director Pas Bracone if keeping the use as discretionary would ‘drag out’ any necessary approvals.
Mr Bracone said the difference between a permitted use and discretionary use were minor and would not affect the time to approve the medical centre and pharmacy.
