Dog owner’s plea to keep dogs successful

Claire Ottaviano, Joondalup WeekenderWanneroo Times

The report recommended the council refuse the Wanneroo owner’s application for an exemption of the Dog Act after it received four objections from neighbouring residents on Tonrita Place.

Miss Conway was unaware there had been complaints and defended herself as a responsible dog owner.

‘When I saw the agenda I was totally surprised because we didn’t even know there was a problem,’ she said.

Miss Conway spoke with her neighbours and bought a citronella collar and an ultrasonic bark silencer for the dogs.

A neighbour attended the meeting with Miss Conway and told the council these measures had reduced the barking.

‘Since the (positive council) decision we’ve met with the neighbours, we’re friendly people, we asked them to let us know if there is anymore barking.’

The council also granted an exemption to residents at Hadleigh Way, Girrawheen, Einstein Way, Tapping and Kundilli Way, Wanneroo to keep three dogs.
