Clarkson police Acting Senior Sergeant Darren Lumb said officers responded to a call to Sheldwich Loop about 9pm on September 24.
He said police tried to stop a grey Toyota Landcruiser that was leaving the scene before it collided with a hatchback on Salterforth Road.
He said as the Toyota driver overcorrected, his car hit the curb and flipped on to its roof, trapping the man inside.
