A Warwick teenager has petitioned for a basketball court and tennis hit-up wall at Ellersdale Park.

At last month’s Joondalup council meeting, councillors unanimously requested $29,471 be listed for consideration in the 2015-16 capital works program for installation of a three-on-three basketball pad and tennis hit-up wall at the Warwick park.

A full-sized basketball court was not recommended because of the topography of the park.

‘I started this petition because I felt there was a lack of sport and recreational facilities for teenagers and young adults around our area,’ Justin said.

‘I also wanted to help promote a healthy lifestyle, which I believe has become endangered due to the increasing incorporation of technology into our daily lives.

‘I do note there are similar facilities in the surrounding areas. However these places are all over 700m away and a fee is applicable at both Warwick Leisure Centre and Greenwood Tennis Club.’

Justin’s 81-signature petition was presented to councillors in March.

Councillors also noted if the project were endorsed as part of the capital works program, community consultation would be undertaken with nearby residents and regular user groups.
