About 90 people, including volunteers from the Wanneroo-Joondalup SES, Two Rocks Volunteer Marine Rescue Group, Yanchep Fire and Rescue, Driver Reviver, Quinns Mindarie Surf Lifesaving Club and Yanchep Surf Lifesaving Club attended the event hosted by the City of Wanneroo.
Mayor Tracey Roberts presented excellence awards to three volunteers who had been nominated by their peers for commitment and dedication in their voluntary roles.
Karina Saunders, from the Wanneroo-Joondalup SES, received one for always helping in her eight years as a member.
The deputy team leader has been managing the personal protective equipment store and filling in for the administration officer.
The City also honoured Corrine Scott, of Yanchep Fire and Rescue, for her hard work behind the scenes, keeping all the official papers in order and being happy to help where possible.
Wayne Wyatt, from the Two Rocks Volunteer Marine Rescue Group, received the third award for being the operations officer, on call 24 hours a day overseeing all rescues and searches, and ensuring proper maintenance of all emergency vessels.
Mrs Roberts thanked all the volunteers for their passion, and for giving their time and talents to the City.
‘I really do admire everyone who gives their own time to serve others and, certainly we could not achieve all the work we do as a City without our volunteers,’ she said.
