Eucalypt faces chop for new bottle shop

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

A LIQUOR store will be built in the Wanneroo town centre after a development assessment panel approved the application last Thursday.

The proposal also included a ‘mixed-use tenancy’ on the 2300sq m site adjacent to Conlan Avenue.

Panel member Fred Zuideveld moved to delete two conditions from the report that recommended the preservation of a Eucalypt tree.

Deputy presiding member Ian Birch supported the motion and said the tree would compromise the design of the building.

‘It is a significant amendment,’ Mr Birch said.

‘Whilst I appreciate the sentiment, the long term future (of the tree) doesn’t seem very likely.’

Presiding member Karen Hyde moved to include two new conditions to the report regarding signage and an on-site stormwater drainage system.
