STUDENTS felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as they arrived for their first day of high school at one of Perth’s newest schools.

Alkimos College was one of seven public schools to open on February 3, with 178 Year 7 students arrived for what staff dubbed ‘Monday fun day’.

The first cohort came from 18 primary schools, including many from Alkimos Primary School and other partner schools John Butler Primary College and Alkimos Beach Primary School.

Principal Nancy McNally welcomed the students and called for Skye Riccardo to help cut the ribbon because it was her birthday, while another student name was drawn at random, with Jordan Bates selected.

She said it was a big day for staff as well as students and thanked parents for choosing public education and the college for their children.

“I’m extremely proud to be your principal,” she said.
