‘Experiment’ gone wrong as North Beach man on explosives, weapons charges

Police charged the North Beach resident after searching his home on February 24.

It is alleged officers discovered a homemade improvised explosive device and other items used to make explosives.

Joondalup Detectives Senior Sergeant Brad Burnett said police did not think the 35-year-old man had planned to use the munitions but was allegedly ‘experimenting’ with their production.

He said the bomb squad was called to dispose of the volatile materials. Police also seized a machete, baton and ammunition.

The alleged offender is due to appear in court on April 1 on charges of possessing or making explosives, four counts of possessing a controlled weapon and one count of possessing unlicensed ammunition.
