Extra maintenance work scheduled for local schools

The top-up program will mean an extra $15.66 million will go to more than 300 public schools in WA.

Education Minister Peter Collier said a major part of the program would be the professional assessment of ceilings, with repairs or replacement to follow if needed.

“We are bringing in experts to carry out the assessments proactively to avoid problems in the future,” he said.

Another area of the program will see surfaces on basketball and netball courts and other sporting areas repaired to prevent children tripping and the replacement of cable pits and millboard containing asbestos.

Ceiling assessments will take place at Quinns Rock, Ashdale, Hudson Park, Landsdale, Madeley, Rawlinson, Roseworth and Marmion primary schools, Ashdale Secondary College, Girrawheen Senior High School and Landsdale Farm School.

Replacement of millboard will take place at Duncraig, Edgewater, Sorrento and Goollelal primary schools, Duncraig, Warwick, Ocean Reef and Belridge senior high schools, Greenwood College and Woodvale and Wanneroo secondary colleges, while Quinns Rock Primary School will have cable pits replaced.

Tripping hazards will be fixed at Girrawheen and Ocean Reef high schools and Greenwood College.
