Far too much water guzzling

In the year to June 2012, their houses consumed the highest amount of water, according to State Government figures released last week.

Inner-city suburbs such as East Perth, West Perth, Highgate and Northbridge were the city’s lowest water users.

North Coogee residents topped the most improved suburb after slashing water use by almost a third.

Water Minister Terry Redman said water use varied with block size, the establishment of new gardens and the number of people in a home.

‘Perth residents have reduced their water use by about 30 per cent over the last decade, but we are still the second highest capital city for water use in Australia and there are more savings that can be made,’ he said.

‘We are aiming to reduce each person’s annual water use from 135,000 litres to 125,000 litres by 2030.’
