Firefighters attend suspicious bush fire in Banksia Grove

FIREFIGHTERS are attending a suspicious bush fire in northern Banksia Grove.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued advice for the fire, which was reported about 1.43pm on September 28.

The fire started north of Tropicbird Drive and south of Flynn Drive in the City of Wanneroo, and there is a lot of smoke in the area.

About 20 career firefighters are on the scene and the cause is being treated as suspicious.

DFES advised there was no threat to lives or homes, but people needed to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changed.

It advised motorists to take care driving through the area, turn on headlights and drive slowly.

Flynn Drive has been closed between Mather Drive and Old Yanchep Road.

Anyone with a respiratory condition affected by smoke can call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.

The bushfire is moving slowly in a northerly direction and is controlled but not contained.

People can report any suspicious behaviour to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions issued a smoke alert for Two Rocks to Mandurah, including the Perth Hills, this morning.

The smoke is the result of several prescribed burns being carried out by the department and is expected to clear overnight.
