Forty-year milestone for northern playgroup

Two local mothers started the group with about eight children in 1973, offering sessions in their own homes.

‘We have now grown to be one of the largest playgroups in WA with about 200 children attending playgroup sessions each week,’ president Becky White said.

‘Most of our families are from Wanneroo, Hocking, Ashby and Tapping but we have members from as far as Clarkson and Mindarie in the north and Madeley and Greenwood in the south.

‘We run four sessions a day, five days a week.

‘As one of the earliest playgroups in Wanneroo, we are celebrating with a community-wide event.

‘We will reflect on the last 40 years in Wanneroo and the opportunities playgroup has provided for local children.’

Organisers are collecting photos and stories for an historical record and are seeking original members to contribute their memories. There is also going to be a commemorative mosaic.
