Last September, councillors approved the removal of paid parking and time restrictions on Saturday mornings in line with the free parking already in place on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. They also asked for a report on the Saturday change to come back to the council after six months.
A survey found during the six months, fewer than half of the on-street parking bays were used on Saturday mornings and only a small number of the vehicles parked for an extended time.
The ability for customers, residents and visitors to be able to access parking has not been significantly affected by the removal of paid parking and time restrictions on Saturday mornings, a council document said.
Therefore, councillors at last months meeting decided to keep the changes made in September.
The annual net loss from removing Saturday morning paid parking is about $139,000.
