Project manager Chris Raykos said the $261.4 million project to extend the freeway to Hester Avenue in Clarkson was on target.
“We made significant progress in 2015, completing the detailed design and over 50 per cent of the bulk earthworks,” he said.
Major works will continue, including earthworks and the installation of noise walls and fauna and pedestrian underpasses.
There will also be upgrades to Hester Avenue and Wanneroo Road and the construction of bridges over the freeway near Clarkson train station and Hester Avenue.
To allow for the installation of bridge beams, several shutdowns of the Joondalup train line will be needed during 2016 and 2017, with the first expected midway through this year.
