Government attacked over carpark spend

State Labor says the Edgewater multi-storey carpark has been pushed back a year in terms of funding.
State Labor says the Edgewater multi-storey carpark has been pushed back a year in terms of funding.

The 2013-14 State Budget included $46.5 million over three years for the project, with $5.2 million allocated for start of construction that financial year.

The 2014-15 Budget announced last Thursday confirmed $46.5 million had still been allocated for the project and estimated only $565,000 had been spent in 2013-14.

About $6.4 million has been allocated for works in 2014-15, followed by $21.9 million and $17.7 million in the next two financial years.

North Metropolitan MLC and opposition transport spokesman Ken Travers said the Edgewater multi-storey car park had been ‘pushed back by a year in terms of funding’.

‘We’re struggling to find a single one of the transport promises from this Government that will be delivered on time,’ he said. The Budget stated the carpark would provide about 1000 parking bays and be available for use in late 2016.
