Healthy workshop for refugees

Koondoola Primary School multicultural community liaison worker Mandy Whitton said the session was useful because it highlighted the sugar content in foods and drinks ” and its consequences.

‘We discussed a healthy lunch box and then we made a healthy lunch from different foods,’ she said. ‘We also discussed different fruits that are in the ladies’ countries and in Australia.’

She said it also helped the participants to form a social network.

‘It helps the ladies integrate into the community, helping their settlement process to be a positive and productive one,’ she said.

Each guest received a welcome kit and a lunchbox from World Organisation for Early Childhood Education of WA.
