The magistrate ordered a $24,000 fine and $4039.30 costs.

The City of Wanneroo charged him an extra $1656.90 for clean-up costs.

Department of Environment Regulation director general Jason Banks said the conviction served as a reminder of the severe penalties for illegal dumping.

"When people deliberately dump waste, flora, fauna and peoples" health can be harmed, he said.

"Illegal dumping also places a significant financial burden on the taxpayer."
