Heavy fine for dumping

Travis Ian Petricevich was convicted in Joondalup Magistrates Court on August 18 of illegally dumping demolition waste in local bushland.

The offences were committed between May 12, 2013, and March 27, 2014.

Information from a member of the public led to his conviction.

The magistrate ordered a $24,000 fine and $4039.30 costs.

The City of Wanneroo charged him an extra $1656.90 for clean-up costs.

Department of Environment Regulation director general Jason Banks said the conviction served as a reminder of the severe penalties for illegal dumping.

When people deliberately dump waste, flora, fauna and peoples health can be harmed, he said.

Illegal dumping also places a significant financial burden on the taxpayer.
