Homelessness inspires student

Sacred Heart College Year 7 student Ella Manning received third place in the ‘create your own storybook’ competition for her book One Small Ray of Sunshine.

Judges said Ella used ‘carefully chosen words’ to tell a story about two lonely souls.

‘Ella has effectively combined a variety of perspectives with a limited colour palette in her pencil drawings and incorporated a range of fonts to complement the illustrations,’ they said.

‘Each double page spread has been planned to ensure that the placement of the text and the composition of the illustration complement each other in telling the story.’

The competition recognised 18 WA students across six categories.
