Homes for old school site

The 1.66ha lot on Shaw Road in Wanneroo was sold by the State Government in 2014 for $3.7 million to the Housing Authority, which plans to build an apartment complex with a mixture of public and privately owned housing.

Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles said for many years the vacant block had been used as a rubbish dump and attracted anti-social activities.

“It is great to see that the lot is finally going to be redeveloped as this site has become an eyesore for local residents,” he said.

“Housing is a much more appropriate use of this land and we are expecting to hopefully see 95 new homes here soon.”

Mr Miles said construction of the development would boost jobs in the area.

“It will also be a boost for local businesses; when people eventually move in they will be able to support local businesses which are a five- minute walk away,” he said.

The tender process and civil works are expected to begin mid-year.
