Hunt on for Easter blood donors

Tyler BrownWanneroo Times

THE hunt is on for an egg-stra 220 people to donate blood this Easter.

With blood donors in short supply around the holiday, people are being urged to roll up their sleeves at the Edgewater Blood Donor Centre.

“Around Easter, many regular blood donors are away, which means blood supplies can dip if we don’t have enough good eggs to fill the gap,” Blood Service spokeswoman Jessica Willet said.

“Platelets only last for five days so we need a constant supply.

“In particular, more donors are needed at Edgewater on Easter Monday when only nine people are booked in to give blood.”

Ms Willet encouraged new donors to be among those who respond to the call for blood this Easter.

“Your lifesaving donation could help someone spend another Easter holiday with family and friends and all it costs is an hour of your time,” she said.

Edgewater Blood Donor Centre is closed Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday but is open on Easter Monday from 8am to 3pm.
