Indigenous students urged to study science

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

Old Ways New Ways, developed by ECU’s Magdalena Wajrak and cultural awareness officer Jason Barrow, brings together western and indigenous knowledge perspectives. Mr Barrow said the program focused on finding ways to inspire indigenous Australian young people to reach their potential.

‘Dr Wajrak teaches the students about contemporary science points of view and investigation,’ he said.

‘My part is to showcase traditional aspects of science from our elders, reinforcing that you don’t have to give up those old ways of working, you can take those same principles and use them in a contemporary fashion.’
