HUNDREDS of keen shoppers were ready and waiting for doors to open in the new section of Lakeside Joondalup on Thursday morning.
Lend Lease Australia head of retail Gary Horwitz said it was an exciting moment.
‘This is a significant milestone as this asset becomes the biggest in Western Australia,’ he said.
‘We’ve built a great centre in to a magnificent one.’
He also reminded people the redevelopment at Lakeside Joondalup was continuing with a new ‘civic square’ to open on Station Square next year including chocolate bar Max Brenner and café/bar Coco Cubano, which would be a first for Perth.
Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said the $320 million redevelopment had been much anticipated.
‘Since the centre was commissioned in 1991 and officially opened in 1994, the Joondalup community has come of age,’ he said.
‘This underlines our strength as a major centre for economic development.’
Myer WA general manager Kerry Davenport said she was ‘extremely proud’ to be part of the opening with Myer’s first new store in WA for 20 years.
Performers visiting Joondalup to celebrate the opening included The X Factor 2014 winner Marlisa and 2012 finalist Nathaniel, Samantha Jade and Jessica Mauboy.
