The City of Joondalup’s concept plan for the proposed Ocean Reef Marina, which includes 584 boat pens, 823 residential dwellings and 137 hotel rooms, was approved by the council in September 2011. In February 2012 the City and State Government signed a memorandum of understanding to proceed with the project.

Candidate for the seat of Ocean Reef Philippa Taylor said if elected, WA Labor would give $1 million to the City of Joondalup to help it develop a structure plan for the site.

‘Discussions about the Ocean Reef Marina have gone on far too long,’ she said.

‘Real steps need to be taken now to progress this important and much needed project in the northern suburbs.’

Ocean Reef MLA Albert Jacob said he was ‘100 per cent’ behind the project.

‘Rather than just giving the City of Joondalup more money to do more plans, we will have the State Government take over the responsibility for progressing the Marina’s approval,’ he said.

Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said the City had written to both major parties ahead of the State election seeking funding commitments for the marina.

‘The City welcomes WA Labor’s support of the Ocean Reef Marina project,’ he said.
