Kinross: newlywed Brittney Silverton to shave head for World’s Greatest Shave

The Kinross resident is preparing to lose her 56cm long locks as part of a belated World’s Greatest Shave to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

For many brides, the dress, photos and hair are a focal part of the wedding planning, but for Mrs Silverton, raising funds to support families affected by blood cancer was at the top of her mind as the big day got closer.

“I just wanted to help people who are going through the battle because it could easily be myself or a loved one some day and it’s nice to know there are people who want to help,” she said.

“I felt it was symbolic to do it around the time of the wedding.

“My fiance has been super supportive and I feel like it’s a way of saying, we’ll be there for each other no matter what.”

Mrs Silverton was prepared to shave at her wedding reception if she managed to raise $15,000 before her April 2 wedding.

Unfortunately, she did not reach the target, so she has decided to hold a small event with family and friends at the end of this month so she can continue with some last-minute fundraising.

So far, she has raised almost $5500. To donate, go to my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/ brittneyseah.
