Knitters go public for charity

The Wanneroo Joondalup Knit and Natter group is holding a Knit in Public event at Wanneroo Central shopping centre between 10am and 3pm on June 13.

Group founder Eleanor Rigby said they would donate all items made on the day to the Merriwa-based support group HAND (Homeless, At Risk, Needy and Disadvantaged).

We are hoping that we can get the public to stop and knit a bit of a scarf, beanie or blanket, she said.

We will supply the yarn and needles and guide any new or recent knitters on what they need to do.

As the weather is getting colder we are pushing to create as many beanies, scarves and blankets as we can, not forgetting the animals that belong to the homeless.

Mrs Rigby said the non-|profit club regularly donated to charities, having made 6252 items last year and more than 3400 so far this year.

The Wanneroo Joondalup Knit and Natter group meets on Tuesdays from 10am to noon at Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre, and on the first and third Sundays of each month at Edith Cowan University.
