THE Department of Water and Environmental Regulation has granted a permit to clear 1980sq m of Hardcastle Park in Landsdale.

The department this week approved the City of Wanneroo’s permit application so it can develop a long-awaited nature and community playground in the park.

The permit said the assessment found the application area contained foraging habitat for black cockatoos and vegetation synonymous with the banksia woodlands of the Swan Coastal Plain threatened ecological community.

As a result, the City is required to revegetate 1770sq m of the 1.16ha park, add a conservation management order for the park and allocate 0.53ha of bushland in Bindoon as an environmental offset site. Granted on December 12, the permit will be valid from January 11, 2019, to January 11, 2025.
