Landsdale: Sam’s memorial playground opens

A NATURE playground built as a tribute to Landsdale toddler Sam Trott has opened ahead of schedule.

The Warradale Park play area is the only dedicated autism-friendly playground in Perth and has been created in memory of Sam, who died at the site in 2014.

The $280,000 project was expected to be finished by September but opened on August 19. Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said it was already proving popular with families.

“There has been an overwhelming response from the community who are thrilled with the creation of the playground, which is a touching tribute to Sam Trott,” she said.

The fenced playground features slides, swings, a timber tepee and musical instruments.

Mrs Roberts said it also included a bus, alluding to one of Sam’s favourite rhymes. “Children can also be a bus driver or passenger in a very special nod to the nursery rhyme Wheels on the Bus,” she said.

An official opening will be held in late September.
